Troutman Sanders tobacco team partner Bryan Haynes was quoted in a May 13 Convenience Store News article that recapped “tidbits” gleaned from this year’s TMA’s Annual Conference and Meeting, which was held in Williamsburg, Virginia.
In a section of the article discussing the Tobacco Control Act, which threw legal advisors into a world of the unknown, Bryan said he spends more time on day-to-day challenges facing tobacco companies than when he started working on tobacco law in 2003. “It has become harder and harder to give clients clear answers to their questions,” he said, particularly when the Food and Drug Administration has not spelled out enough of the details. The deeming rule adds another wrinkle to advising tobacco clients.
