Troutman Sanders Tobacco practice partner Bryan Haynes was recently quoted in a Law360 article regarding the impact of the recent presidential election on federal regulation of consumer goods.
Haynes noted that the Food & Drug Administration is now expected to issue regulations covering cigars, pipe tobacco and electronic cigarettes under the Tobacco Control Act. Haynes was quoted as saying, “That obviously would add a whole new regulatory burden for those companies, the likes of which they haven’t seen.”
In the meantime, bills are expected to be reintroduced in Congress that would exempt traditional large and premium cigars from FDA regulation.
